TR221AYV012 - Old Fish Farm

Description

Located on the west coast of Cunda Island at Ayvalık Municipality, the mudflat is known by the locals as ‘old fish farm’. There are artificial channels along the wetland, starting from the olive groves behind and reaching out to the sea. The wetland is a tidal intermittant mudflat flooded at the high tide. Close to the olive groves is a small stream covered by a thin dense vegetation. 1140 Mudflats and sandflats not covered by seawater at low tide, 1510 * Mediterranean salt steppes (Limonietalia) and 1310 Salicornia and other annuals colonizing mud and sand are the habitat types recorded at the field survey. The wetland is a breeding site for dune nesting bird species such as Charadrius alexandrinus and Charadrius dubius.
