Maden Island Estuary is a small estuary located on the eastern coast of Maden Island at Ayvalık Municipality. Although there are no settlements on the island, the eastern coast is comperatively easily accessible by the sea and is used by the local people in summertime for swimming. Due to these recreational activities, the heavy solid waste pollution and degraded vegetation is threatening the wetlands original landforms. 1410 Mediterranean salt meadows (Juncetalia maritimi) is the dominant type in the wetland area, whereas 1310 Salicornia and other annuals colonizing mud and sand, 1510 * Mediterranean salt steppes (Limonietalia), 2220 Dunes with Euphorbia terracina and 5420 Sarcopoterium spinosum phryganas also recorded during the field survey.
